I just heard, through tears I might add, you playing the Brahms concerto with the CSO and Kalmar. Could it be played with any more conviction and heart-wrenching beauty? You are one kick-ass musician, full of fire and empathy, soul and fiestiness. May you continue to make history, and **delighting** your listeners for many many many years to come!

We heard your interview on our local NPR station...you are amazing in your knowledge of musical instruments. The way you convey that wisdom with the listeners was entrancing, my husband and I were glued to the radio while you described your different violins! We sat in our car after we reached our destination just so we could hear the end of your talk. My husband was so intrigued by your violin explanation; he went to your website just to see the different you spoke of. I wished we had been able to attend your concert with the ISO here in Springfield, but we had already made plans for the Valentines weekend. Hope you come catch you next month in the Chicago area.

RACHEL you play the Violin with ease, with brilliant tone and craving pitch in tempo surpassing excellence. What else Erica Morini, Jascha Heifetz, Isaac Stern, Itchack Perlman among the few have got to say ?

To Rachel Barton Pine: Jan. 5, 2010 I heard you played in the YouTube Sarazate`s Gypsy Airs in full brilliant dexterity befitting a World Great Violinist. Your rendition of that classic Music of the Masters caresses my soul, soothes my mind and enthralls my heart for endearment. You are the very Gift of God to us in this Musical World. Long Live !!!

Just heard you and the Scottish Chamber Orchestra on the radio (KBAQ) wonderfully playing Bruch Scottish Fantasy and was taken back to 1995. I was a cellist in the Harper Symphony when you were guest soloist with the Sibelius Violin Concerto, which I was unfamiliar with. It quickly became one of my favorites. I was fascinated watching your peaceful expressions in spite of the difficult passages and your injuries just 9 months before. Your music transcends the physical. My granddaughters are violinists and music is one of our main modes of communication. I enjoy reading about your many musical interests and endeavors, particularly with young people.

I'm looking for specific a CD in which RBP played a Pastorial Suite. I heard it on KUHF radio in Houston, TX and was captivated. Can anyone tell which CD that might be? Thank you. I assure you I am a fan of RBP for life!! She is terrific. Her violin definitely speaks to me!

Rachel:
Perhaps my Scottish Fantasies album, or maybe American Virtuosa? You can hear sound clips of every track of every CD I've ever made right here on my website! Rachel :)

I almost blew a gasket during the opening measures of Barber's Violin Concerto when you played in Stockton! I had to hold my breath to keep from loudly sobbing. Truly an emotional moment. Your playing moved me more than I can describe. Thanks!

I have just had the privilege of performing a concert with you, (first stand-second violin) and am so happy we get to perform with you again tomorrow!! Incredibly beautiful, moving and flawlessly performed Chausson and Saint-Saens followed by a "little something" of an encore-- Ysaye--absolutely unbelievable. I only wish our orchestra could have been a bit more up to the challenge. I am totally blown away by both your artistry and your gracious personality. Thank you so much for sharing both with the Four Corners. Please come back again and again.

Hi Rachel, You never know if you influence other people's lives! I am a violist in the Quad city Symphony. Last Sunday after a long day and evening of orchestral rehearsals (Mahler symphony #1 ["The Titan"] and Mozart's Jupiter Symphony), I arrived home after a long commute to find my wife waiting up for me. "You are on the NBC Nightly News - I recorded it for you. Take a look at the Making a Difference segment." It was all about your life and career and beginnings in music. I couldn't believe it when I saw the smiling bearded teacher tuning the little violin for an adorable pig-tailed youngster. That teacher was me - rather a much younger version. Of all the photos of your teachers - you picked me! I really loved teaching at the Suzuki Institute at Steven's Point Wisconsin. To teach alongside colleagues such as Craig timmerman, William Preucil and Milton Goldberg was truly a privilege. But most of all, to be able to convey my love of string music to enthusiastic youngsters and their families gave me great joy. Would you be able to send me a signed copy of this photo? My mother (Ethel) who is 92 years young and who still loves me despite the fact that I never became another Heifetz, would enjoy a copy also. My mailing address is: 999 310th Street Atalissa, Iowa 52720 I wish you much success in your career and hope to keep in touch with you. Best wishes, Barrett Stoll (Barry)

Rachel:
Wow, how cool is this! I have to admit, it was the Today Show that chose that particular photo from among a whole armload, but it's definitely a great one! It brings back lots of great memories of how fun and inspiring Stevens Point was when I was 5. I had no record of your identity, so it's really fortunate that your wife happened to see the broadcast! I have to borrow the photo back from my mom again, but hopefully I'll be able to send you a copy soon.

Heard you and the Clement Concerto for the 1st time today on "Crossover" on WRTI in Philadelphia. We were just overwhelmed by the music and the musicianship. Then we read your story as written in The Chicago Tribune. What an inspiring story it is. Good luck as you continue your career. Since we're on the e-list, hopefully we'll know when you are performing in the Philadelphia area - we will certainly be there. Hal & Marianne Sacks

We were awestruck by your wonderful performance of the Wieniawski last night with the CSO. Inspired by the experience, we left the theater after your encore (but before the Jupiter Symphony) so I could get home and practice my violin!

Dear Rachel, What a gift your are. A young violinist, Holly Jenkins, is in the Hillsboro, MO area and very accomplished. Another young violinist played a sond one day that made me cry. It was "Mother and Child" and I tracked down that it was composed by William Grant Still, played by Clifford Panton (Centaur Records) but it is not the same, moving piece the yound Johnson boy played. Any insights? I admire you for your strength through the years. Judy Hogan

I have a front-row seat for tonight's concert, but I can't come because I have this terrible cough. I'm sure you don't want someone sitting right at your feet, coughing her head off while you play! I'm SO disappointed! I kicked myself all last year for not getting a ticket for the "blizzard concert" so I grabbed one this year. So much for that! Take care, stay warm, and have a great concert this evening!

bs'd I have loved your playing for many years and just thought I would tell you so. Your tone is warm open hearted, honest in the Oistrakh tradition and keeps the listeners attention like few others. Your musicianship is impeccable and your cd's are among the most enjoyable I have ever heard

My daughter and I saw you on Sept. 9, in Colorado Springs playing the Beethoven violin concerto. You were wonderful, absolutely! We so enjoyed your playing. And your talking to the audience afterward was a gracious gesture. Of course, we liked the Bach you played, too. While Andre Watts was playing, you and your husband (?) came into our box and watched him until he started the third movement of the Emperor. I wanted to tell you then how much I enjoyed your performance, but I didn't have the courage. If you ever come back to play with the Springs Philharmonic, I will be there. My very best to you in your career; I know you have been through a great deal and I hope you will soon be where you belong in your career. Thank you, Kathy M. Zerfas

Hi Rachel! I listen to your Brahms Concerto over and over and over. It is one of my favorite CD's. When you come in with the violin comes in the first movement after the orchestra's "buildup" I always ask my kids if they have goosebumps, because I always do! I am very excited to hear your new CD! I am sure it will be brilliant, like the rest of your work. Bravo! Warren

You captivated us all at the concert July 31 at fiddle camp. What a delight to listen to you play. How on earth you make a violin sound like a piccolo or play all of those harmonics at lightning speed boggles the mind. The Scottish lament brought images of mists and moors. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and playing for us. Quint was an interesting teacher to have at camp.

Absolutely gorgeous playing. Makes we feel like setting fire to my own violin -- (well not really). Thanks for sharing your marvelous talent here!

We want to thank you for such a beautiful performance of Beethoven's concerto. It was amusing (and wonderful) to see everyone clap at the end of the 1st movement. I have often thought that it sounds like a concerto within a concerto. So much energy and emotion.....but only the beginning. It isn't every day that a world class musician takes the time to connect with their audience/fans. It shows us where your heart is (with the music and the people it touches). We were both moved. Actually, everyone in my household (even the non-violinists) are fans of yours. I like the way you interact with the kids, and they also seem to feel comfortable around you. I am certain that you remember the days when you were a young performer, and I bet that it can be recalled in great detail. Thank you for being an inspiration to my daughter. Even if she does not make music a career, I am sure that it will be a life-long passion, like it is for me. I am certain that some young person out there will become famous some day and cite you as an influence! Finally, I want to say that your web site covers it all. I enjoy musicians who see outside their genre, and find the merit and inspiration in all types of music. My wife sometimes shakes her head in disbelief when I listen to Italian opera followed by Rush or Dream Theater, and then move on to Mozart or perhaps Buddy Guy. Life (music) is too interesting to be stuck on one channel.

It was great having you at our Lane Centennial Concert. It was so inspiring to watch and listen to you play! except the part that now my mom bugs me to practice more... but anyways, thank you and I hope you come back to play for us again!

Saw you on Sat. night at the MAC at COD. I was blown away! I rergularly listen to classical music when I am working. I had not been to the symphony in 15 years. Loved every minute of it. Thanks for drawing me in again. I wanted to but a CD but did not have enough cash on hand. You autographed my program for my son, Charlie. He is 11 and developing an appreciation for all types of music. Charlie was particularly intrigued by your professional photo complete with violin and studded wrist bands. Your autograph is prominently displayed in his room. Thanks for creating such beautiful music!

Hello Rachel: Found your website by accident last night while looking for fiddle or violin graphics for a bluegrass website that I 'webmaster.' I read your bio on your website. It’s a very beautiful story. God has blessed you.

Dwight
Sincere thanks for sharing all these beautiful photos!! You are such a special person in the world, and have touched so many lives....

Dear Rachel, I listened to your quartet performance last night. It was absolutely beautiful. I hope to see you play here in Chicago soon. I grew up playing Viola in school, my daughter just started the Viola this year in school as well. I love guitar (neoclassical) and am learning to compose my own music. I hope to record it at my home studio for my own pleasure, its just a hobby. I am very insterested in playing Viola again and incorporating it into my music with guitar. Take care.
